photos of the Clawson F5 Mandolin(1987)
Handmade by Dean Clawson, Advance, N.C., serial #53, 1987

* The mandolin is a model F5, totally hand-made by Dean Clawson.
* Purchased from Harry West in 1995, presently owned and offered by by Chris Miner
   of the Cape Cod Bluegrass Band Crabgrass.

* Condition: Very solid!
* Great woody bluegrass sound.
* Refretted and the fingerboard replaced by Jim Boyce(Falmouth, MA) somewhere around 2001 or 2002.
* Finish: semi-gloss
* Color: Tobacco - the classic old color - dark brown with a lighter yellowish-brown sunburst.
* Neck: maple; round; no truss rod. Doesn't need it; I have had the mandolin for almost 10 years
   and have never had so much as a hint of warping.
* Back: maple; one piece.
* Sides: maple
* Top: spruce
* Fingerboard: ebony, I'm pretty sure. No frets on fingerboard extension.
* Tuners: Not sure what brand, but they work very well.
* Bridge: classic adjustable
* Headstock: stained brown; "The Clawson" logo.
* Tailpiece: classic; missing cover.
* Hardshell case: Yes.
* Strings: I use either D'Addario J74's or J75's. I think the last set I put on were J75's.
